The 2012-2013 Musicale season started with the Fall Potluck Opening
Social held at the Locust Lane LDS Church in Nampa.
We had music by sisters Sierra and Annie Hibbert, daughters of member Emily
Hibbert. We also shared ideas for incorporating theory in to the music studio.
We experimented with holding a bake sale at Fall Festival as
a fund raiser. It was successful. We raised just over $100.00. We noticed there
were a lot of dad’s with no cash, so we hope that as we do this at festival it
will become a fun tradition and that students will remember to bring a couple
quarters. Members supplied baked goods. We did a little better in the spring at
bake sale and it was run completely by student volunteers. We raised $169.90. Success!
Our Founder’s Day was held at the Women’s Century Club. Food
was planned by a food committee and provided by the members. We delighted to a
performance of Beethoven’s Pathetique Sonata 1st movement by 13 year old Nolan
Nguyen, student of member, Dr. Walden Hughes.
A new try for a Fund Raiser was implemented in December. Each
member was to ask for donations from businesses (including their own studio,
past winners that now own businesses and community supporters). Members were
sent two copies of a brochure to give others. They were also e-mailed a pdf
form. This was HUGE success and $2,600 was raised. It involved very little time
and provided the donors with a tax deductible donation and advertising for
their business. The donor’s names where posted around the NNU Fine Arts building
the during the spring festival and at the auditions for the Music Awards.
Winners of the Music Awards were asked to write a thank you to a specific
sponsor and they were provided with an stamped addressed envelope and blank
thank you card.
Both our Fall and Spring Festivals were a success. There
were more people involved in planning festival this year. In addition to the
Festival Chairman there was audition schedulers, typist for certificates and
judge sheets.
We awarded $1370 in Nampa Musicale Music Awards and have
money the account for upcoming awards. We also awarded a special $400 Winfield
S. Kircher Memorial Music Award from monies specifically donated in Win’s
memory. In 2012 this award was $200. Next year we will award the remaining
$400.
There were 155 Gold Cups earned this year: 112 1st, 32
2nd, 3 3rd, 4 4th, and 4 5th cups.
Here are some of our illustrious judges for the Fall Festival 2012.
