Board Meeting held 8/7/2013, 7:00 p.m., at the home of Deanna Beames
Called to order by incoming President Teresa Thurgood, board member introductions were made and the meeting opened.
General Board Members
Most members have been in their position one year and we do not feel a need to change. The general consensus is two years is a good service time. Last year there were two vice-presidents, this was an unusual circumstance, and we do not feel there is a need to have the 2nd vice president position. Cheryl will serve three years as vice-president (because of the unusual circumstance) and will take over as President at the end of Teresa's two year service. Amy Weaver has asked to be replaced as the Historian for family reasons. She was not aware it was a two year position. We need to be sure service periods are clear when asking people to serve. It was suggested that Heather Best may be a good replacement. Teresa will make that call.
Fall Potluck
We have made a call to the Southside United Methodist Church to use their facilities for the Fall Potluck (waiting for confirmation). We have decided on September 21, 2013, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:50 p.m., followed by a benefit concert by Carol Sue White from 1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. The concert will be advertised through members and our blog site, with additional advertising being handled by the publicity committee. I will contact Carol to confirm the concert.
Volunteer sheets for the position of Committee Chair and committee members will be available at the potluck.
Dues
Amount of dues were discussed. What has been charged in the past has sufficiently covered our needs. We will not be raising them, but will continue with the $5 late fee if not paid time.
Festival
Committee Members
It is the general understanding that Robyn may have a new festival chair that she will be training. Teresa will confirm this information. Teresa will also need to confirm the existing committee members listed in last year's directory, or ask Robin to do that. We also need to ask about festival training and whether a question and answer section should be included in the directory about festival and/or address it at the fall potluck, or consider a festival workshop depending on the number of new members.
Festival Dates:
Fall Festival 12/7/13 - when would the registration deadline be?
Spring Festival 2/28/14 @ CofI and 3/1/2014 at NNU - registration deadline?
Vocals at Cathy's 3/1/14
Founder's Day
Will be held January 25, 2014 at the Women's Century Club in Nampa, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Possible entertainment by Paul Schiller (of Dunkleys), Shawn Roberts, or Del Parkinson. Teresa will check on this or have the committee chair.
Fundraising - last year's donation flyer was a success, we will continue having the bake sales at both festivals and the donation flyers.
Music Awards/Gold Cup Recital
Will be held March 8, 2014 at the Presbeterian Church on Lake Lowell from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. We discussed having a concert/recital for all students and their families AND Teachers in place of the Gold Cup Recital due to the length of time between festival and the Gold Cup Recital. It was felt the length of time played a role on the proficiency of the performances. The Gold cups would then be awarded privately by the teacher. It was proposed and approved to vote on this change at the Fall Potluck.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
